The uncertainty regarding future pension contributions for Kentucky’s five major public universities is creating budgeting challenges.  Kentucky lawmakers could still be called to Frankfort to enact pension reforms before July, the start of the new fiscal year.

Central Kentucky Lawmakers Differ On Pension Action

Kentucky lawmakers have significantly different ideas on how to address pension reforms for regional universities and quasi-government agencies.  Republican representative Stan Lee of Lexington said most GOP members in both houses of the general assembly back the governor’s plan.  But, he admitted it’s a highly charged, political issue.

Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Aaron Thompson along with administrators at five comprehensive universities remain intensely interested in a pension fix.  Governor Bevin this week vetoed the bill adopted by lawmakers which sought to aid schools and many quasi-governmental groups transition their retirement strategies.


It’s a new week in Frankfort, but the same issue -pensions- was heard inside and outside the capitol. Tension continued Monday over pension reform.
