A Republican state representative from Winchester has withdrawn her candidacy for re-election, saying that politics in Frankfort has become “too vicious.” 

Rep. Donna Mayfield made the announcement during a candidate forum on Wednesday evening according to a Facebook Live video of the event posted by the Winchester Sun. 


An ongoing investigation into sexual harassment in the Kentucky legislature still hasn’t determined who paid to settle the claims and for how much. Former House Speaker Jeff Hoover and his accuser are denying the hush money came from political donors.

The 2017 Kentucky General Assembly saw a rush of activity during a busy first week, with some major Republican priorities passing both the House and Senate without pushback.

As the legislative session continues, we’ll make our annual visit to the Capitol to talk with Senate Pres. Robert Stivers and House Speaker Jeff Hoover.



Much of the attention on day one of the short session focused on the House, where Republicans 

  have control for the first time in almost a century.  Jamestown Representative Jeff Hoover was sworn as the new House Speaker.  “I am humbled and honored to stand here today and accept your election as Speaker of the House of Representatives on this House Floor,” Hoover said.

During this week of January, Kentucky lawmakers will select their party leaders in Frankfort.  Some posts will see little change but house republicans will have a decision to make. Northern Kentucky Rep Adam Koenig is challenging Majority Floor Leader Jeff Hoover for his position.  "You know I appreciate representative Hoover’s 14 years of service, but he's had 14 years and it's time for some new ideas and new energy," said Koenig.
