The State Department of Corrections is expanding its automatic notification system to include an inmate escape from a halfway house. It currently pertains to one such facility in the Commonwealth.
The Department of Corrections has used the notification system for more than a decade to provide alerts when an inmate escapes from a prison.
By the end of this year, the system will also include all halfway houses in the Commonwealth. One halfway house, Keeton Corrections in Paducah, is currently active.
To receive notifications, resident call a toll free number and register by the zip code of the facility. The automated service will call anyone registered with a pre-recorded message if an inmate escapes. It will call again when the escapee is back in custody.
