A group of citizens silently walked the floor of the state Capital today before the 2019 legislative session was even gaveled in. Many were members of Kentucky’s Poor People’s Campaign, which is characterized as a call for moral revival.
Union College Chaplain David Miller has been involved in the Poor People’s Campaign for about a year. “A good session in the legislature would be one in which the needs of the poor, the needs of people of color, the needs of LGBTQ community are in the foreground instead of the background,” said Miller.
As a member of the Barbourville community, Miller said he’s familiar with ecological devastation found in challenges tied to the distribution of clean water. The Methodist minister said the storage of coal ash outside power plants in larger cities is also a concern.
