Lexington  celebrated the completion of 100 miles of paved bike lanes in Fayette County. The city on Monday reached mile 100 along the West Hickman Trail in Veterans Park.  Mayor Linda Gorton led a news conference. “We’ve still got a long way to go, but 100 miles put us over of the way to the full build out of our bicycle network,” said Gorton.

The trail is a greenway connecting Veterans Park and elementary school to an existing on-street bikeway system.  City Engineer Keith Lovan said “This trail is connecting neighborhoods to shopping areas to schools.  So finally we’re able to actually when we build these trails, actually connect to things.  For years, we were just building where we could."

Lovan added next year’s plan includes work on Town Branch Commons, the Town Branch Trail, Legacy Trail, and the Brighton Rail Trail.  He noted that amounts to about a $25 million investment.
