Funding from three different sources will be used to conduct an environmental water-flow study for Lexington’s Town Branch Park.

The signature recreational-leisure area is planned for what’s currently the Cox Street parking lot near Rupp Arena.  Town Branch Fund Director Allison Lankford says the Town Branch Creek will be a significant part of the downtown park. “We’re trying to monitor the water flow of the current state of Town Branch so that we can determine really how best to really expand that waterway in the park, the location of that expansion, and really best way to restore it,” said Lankford.

The Army Corps of Engineers will provide $175,000 worth of technical assistance.  The Downtown Lexington Partnership is contributing $92,000 toward this work with the Town Branch Fund contributing another $83,000.  Plans call for a groundbreaking for the park in 2022, following completion of the convention center expansion.
