Talks between defense attorneys and the prosecution could keep Jerry Wayne Walker Jr. from facing trial on evidence tampering charges. Walker was originally accused of setting a fatal dorm fire at Murray State University in 1998. Three years later, a trial ended in a mistrial. But a Marshall County jury acquitted Walker in July in a retrial in the case. That's when prosecutors charged Walker with evidence tampering. Last month, a judge refused to dismiss those charges.
