Political newcomer Shevawn Akers, 38, won a seat Tuesday on the Urban County Council, defeating Brannon Dunn in the 2nd Council District. The seat was vacated by Councilman Tom Blues, who is retiring after three terms on the council. This district extends from the west end of downtown to Masterson Station and surrounding neighborhoods.
