Officials Look for Cause of Fire That Killed Thoroughbreds

May 9, 2014

A barn fire near Keeneland in Lexington has taken the lives of eight Thoroughbred horses.   Joe Best of the Lexington Fire Department says the call came in just before one a.m. Friday morning.

He says it may be difficult to discover the cause of the fire due to the amount of damage to the building before firefighters arrived.  "We got called so late in the game that it's possible we may never know what caused the fire," said Best.

Two horses were rescued from a nearby shed which was also on fire.
