The National Weather Service office in Louisville has issued a winter weather advisory for much of Kentucky. It will remain in effect until 9 a.m. EST on Friday. A cold front is marching through Kentucky and causing rain to change over to snow showers.
Scattered to sometimes heavy snow showers will produce light snow accumulations by tonight, says the NWS. In most areas, about 1 inch of snow is expected but pockets of up to 2 inches could appear. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph will cause visibility at times to reach near zero, the weather service said.
This will also cause wind chills near zero on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Roads could be slick across much of the state from the rain and snow. Travel could be hazardous, NWS said Thursday afternoon.
