An Eastern Kentucky University senior from Hollywood, Florida is making his mark on Kentucky’s higher education policy organization. The political science major is serving on the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
Even with debate over funding levels for higher education including a court decision, Sebastian Torres says new student offerings need attention. The EKU Student Government Association Vice President says that peaks his interest. “I know that across the state universities are really trying to ramp up concentrations, and give students more choices. So, I’m very focused on that,” said Torres.
Torres is serving on the Tuition Development Work Group. He says everything from political action to national trends on amenities to administration size all play into the tuition discussion. Torres says he wants to see more data, but adds he generally agrees with performance based funding.
