Officials say another discovery of crude oil under southern Kentucky’s Wolf Creek Dam will not delay the long-term plan to fix leaks in the dam. The oil was found in a core sample taken from the earthen dam last week. The Army Corps of Engineers is in the midst of a project launched in 2006 to prevent the dam, which impounds Lake Cumberland, from failing.

After 40-years in business, Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Borders plans to liquidate. The company once operated four bookstores in Louisville, but the branches on 4th Street and South Hurstbourne were closed weeks after the company filed for Chapter 11 in February. The stores at Shelbyville Road Plaza and on Bardstown Road were to remain open through the Chapter 11 process, but will now close along with about 400 other branches that survived the first round of closures.

A spokesman with the U-S Postal Service says the agency is about to conduct a study to see if some of the duties handled by the Lexington Processing and Distribution Center could be performed more efficiently at the Louisville plant. David Walton says such "Area Mail Processing" studies are going on all across the country.

The latest battle is set to come to a head Wednesday, when the independent Institute of Medicine is expected to make recommendations about preventive health care services for women. And one service that's drawing a lot of the attentions is contraception.

Gen. David Petraeus stepped down as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan on Monday and handed control of the war over to Marine Corps Gen. John Allen. Petraeus is leaving to become head of the CIA at the end of the summer.

A year ago, President Obama asked Petraeus to take charge in Afghanistan and jump start the counterinsurgency operation there. Now, there's a question of whether Monday's change in command also signals a change in strategy.

The Counterinsurgency Strategy

A few years ago, Ernest Greene could be found working in the reference department of the University of South Carolina library. But in the back of his mind, he was writing songs. He later began recording those works, and he's just released his first full-length album, Within and Without.

Greene records under the name Washed Out, a term he learned as an amateur photographer.

In her living room, Caroline Nagy introduces the newest member of her family – the six-week-old infant in a striped onesie cradled in her arms. "This is Alex Joseph. He was born May 24th — my birthday," she says.

Their shared birthday wasn't entirely a coincidence. Two weeks before her due date, Nagy was swollen, and uncomfortable. So she asked her doctor for relief.

Conservatives coined a catchy name for the legislation House Republicans have scheduled for a Tuesday vote — Cap, Cut and Balance.

Democrats in the White House have what they think is just as creative a name for the bill — Duck, Dodge and Dismantle.

And those same Obama officials vow that President Obama will veto the legislation if it were to reach his desk.

That's a major if; it's unlikely the Republican bill will get through the Senate.

A Libyan government spokesman said today that representatives of Moammar Gadhafi's regime and U.S. officials held face-to-face talks in Tunisia.

"This is a first step. We welcome any further steps," [government spokesman] Musa Ibrahim said in a brief interview with CNN. "We don't want to be stuck in the past."
