Earth Eats: Thanksgiving Special

Earth Eats Thanksgiving is a program of planning and preparing a terrific thanksgiving meal with turkey, other courses, and some vegetarian options. Host Annie Corrigan and renowned chef Daniel Orr indulge in some fine cooking, and some very “foody” musical interludes with very special friends.

The Splendid Table: “Turkey Confidential”

Help is on the way for Thanksgiving cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on this, the biggest cooking day of the year. Lynne Rossetto Kasper, host of The Splendid Table®, will be available to answer listener questions with wit, expertise and laughter throughout the live, two-hour program. Chanukah in Story and Song

"Chanukah in Story and Song" is a unique holiday program narrated by Leonard Nimoy and sung by the acclaimed vocal sextet The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble.  This delightfully engaging program presents 25 eclectic selections, from the Ladino songs of the Spanish Jews and Yiddish melodies of Eastern Europe to modern Israeli tunes and the ensemble's original version of "I Have a Little Dreydle."

St. Olaf Christmas Festival

A cherished tradition for nearly a century, the St. Olaf Christmas Festival is not a mere concert,  it's a spiritual journey. You'll hear familiar carols, choral motets and hymns guiding us from the expectation of Advent, to that holiest of moments when Christ was born in a lowly stable, to the arrival twelve days later of the Three Kings from the East. Brian Newhouse hosts this annual holiday tradition.

Christmas with Morehouse and Spellman Glee Clubs
12:00 – 1:00pm
One of the great holiday traditions in America, the choirs of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges -- two of the most prestigious historically black institutions in the nation -- get together to present a spine-tingling concert program. Korva Coleman hosts.

Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra: Messiah
8:00 – 10:00pm

In this annual holiday tradition, the orchestra is joined by the Lexington Singers. Jefferson Johnson is the guest conductor. Recorded live by WEKU on December 11th.

Carols and Choirs: An NPR Christmas

Hear musicians from around the world in NPR's performance studio as they share special holiday moments. Join host Lisa Simeone for ancient harmonies from Trio Medieval, traditional carols from the Riga Dom Boys Choir, and a rarely heard Christmas song by Sibelius, straight from Finland's YL Choir. The Pittsburgh Brass unpacks a pair of 500-pound bells to ring in the holiday, and the members of Trio Voronezh tune up a balalaika or two.

A Harpist Christmas

Harpist Yolanda Kondonassis celebrates the season with treasures of Christmas music for the harp, spotlighting this heavenly instrument.  Joining Kondonassis for this program is Joshua Smith on flute and Cynthia Phelps on viola.

A Chanticleer Christmas

The prolific male chorus celebrates the mystery and wonder of Christmas with traditional and best-loved Christmas songs from Gregorian chant to Gospel. The San Francisco-based chorus is recognized worldwide for its brilliant technique and musicality.

Cantus: All is Calm
8:00 – 9:00am

Cantus, one of America's most accomplished male choirs, and Theater Latté Da have created a profoundly moving new work of musical radio theater. This work is an uplifting musical drama about the surprising 1914 World War I Christmas truce. All is Calm tells both sides of the story as men who had been trying to kill each other in the fields of France spontaneously put down their guns, walked across no-man’s land and sang together.

This lively musical program is a perennial broadcast favorite featuring the Minneapolis-based ensemble, VocalEssence, led by the visionary Philip Brunelle.

The Dale Warland Singers signature holiday concert featuring moving selections of choral classics celebrating Christmas.   Dale Warland and host Brian Newhouse create a very special Christmas musical treat.

A Carolina Christmas

A Carolina Christmas is a festive celebration of the Appalachian folk traditions and other styles native to the Carolinas with grammy-winning artist Kathy Mattea, the Carolinas’ choral ensemble, VOX, and the Baroque/Celtic trio, The Beggar Boys. Hosted by WDAV’s Jennifer Foster, you’ll hear African-American spirituals, folk favorites, Celtic jigs, and even the Biltmore’s renowned 1916 E.M. Skinner organ in fresh, evocative performances of music for the season.
