In an unexpected development, an Iraqi refugee pleaded guilty in federal court in Louisville to terrorism-related charges.Mohanad Shareef Hammadi, 24, of Bowling Green, pleaded guilty to five counts of attempting to provide material support and resources to terrorists, four counts of attempting to provide material support and resources to a designated foreign terrorist organization, two counts of making false statements on an immigration form and conspiracy to possess, receive, transfer and export surface-to-air missile launcher systems.

What began as a school project has turned into a campaign for 12-year-old Noah Jones to make sure no foster child in Kentucky is made to feel like they, or their things, are trash. Noah, of Bowling Green, is home-schooled. About two years ago, he was given an assignment to come up with a project to improve his community. He decided he wanted to collect bags and backpacks for children in foster care so they have something in which to carry their belongings when they are removed from their homes. He called his organization A Case For Dignity. It was started in August 2010.

Lincoln Trail Open this Weekend

Lincoln Trail and Trailhead will be open during the Labor Day weekend. “The (trail) construction is close to being finished,” Mammoth Cave National Park Superintendent Pat Reed said in a news release. “There are still some piles of gravel at the trailhead, but our crew has cleared the way for folks to be able to use the area over the holiday weekend. “We will go back in after the weekend to put on the finishing touches.”

New Connector Set to Open

After more than a year of construction, the new connector between Ky. 100 and the Russellville By-Pass/U.S. 68-Ky. 80 is nearly complete and set to open to motorists Wednesday. The one-mile stretch of road is hoped to be the first section of the southern Russellville By-Pass, with the goal being to eventually have the bypass make a complete circle around the city.
