Biographical Sketch
Michael Carter is a forty year veteran of classical music
broadcasting. His career spanned both the commercial and non-commercial
arenas and included eight years with WFLN in Philadelphia and two
years with New York's WQXR, the radio station of The New York Times.
Michael began an extended sabbatical from full time broadcasting in
1992 but returned to the air and his Southern roots in 2001 via Alabama
Public Radio, which broadcasts from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
In March 2005 Michael joined WEKU at Eastern Kentucky University as
Music Director.
In 1990, Michael began applying his varied and extensive musical
background to journalism when he became a critic for American Record
Guide. In 1995, his evaluations of recordings also began appearing in
Classical DisCDigest and in 2000, Michael added Fanfare to his list of
publication credits. Though comfortable in most spheres of classical
music, Michael's expertise includes repertoire for his chosen
instrument, the clarinet, as well as the Baroque, pre-Classical and
Classical eras.
Michael has written several short sacred choral works. He also devotes
a portion of his rare leisure time to penning poetry and short stories.
